Guest worship leadership

For congregations that need a guest preacher.

Sunday still comes. Maybe you are between settled pastors, or your pastor is on vacation or sabbatical, or illness or family need has pulled them away, or you are marking a special Sunday and want a guest in the pulpit. Whatever the reason, I can lead full Sunday worship for your congregation, built around the texts of the day and the people in the room.

What a service includes

I prepare a complete Sunday service in advance. The sermon is written for your congregation, anchored in whatever texts you ask for, the lectionary if your tradition follows one, or any scripture you want lifted that day. The bulletin arrives camera-ready before Sunday. The sermon is written for your room, not pulled from a folder of generic ones.

Suggested gift
$300 plus mileage
For a single Sunday service

The gift covers the custom-prepared sermon, full liturgy preparation in your tradition, hymn coordination, a print-ready bulletin, and my presence before and after the service for fellowship and conversation. Mileage is reimbursed at the current IRS standard rate. Multi-service Sundays, special-occasion services, or services that need substantial extra preparation are arranged in conversation.

Rates are adjusted to reflect generally accepted standards in the area, or negotiated based on what fits the situation. The number is a starting point, not a ceiling or a floor.

If your congregation has limited resources, please reach out anyway. The answer is yes more often than not.

Who this serves

Congregations anywhere. I am based in Crystal Lake, Illinois, with deep ties to the Driftless region of Wisconsin, and I travel naturally to other places. The conversation determines what is possible. If travel is not workable for you, I can also deliver a guest sermon as a recorded message, a written manuscript, or a live stream.

Begin the conversation

The first conversation is short and without commitment. I want to understand what your congregation needs and whether I am the right fit. Book time on the calendar, or send me a quick email.
