The Same Hands Daily Word card for Thursday, July 30, 2026

John Adesoye stood in graduation robes at sixty-four. His son Daniel was on the same campus that season, finishing a degree in creative music technology. The father had spent decades as an electronics technician. He grew up in a farming family in Nigeria, fell in love with the way broken devices could be made to work again, and carried that skill through years of work that included time in Greece. Then he returned to training. He completed a two-year nursing apprenticeship while still holding his regular job. On 15 July he graduated at Bristol Beacon. He now serves at Southmead Hospital.

The picture is simple. A man who spent forty years repairing what was broken pointed the same hands toward people.

We often treat the later decades as leftover material. We accept a surface reading of our years and decide the useful season has closed. The skill is still there. The capacity to care is still there. Yet we label the later chapter as dross and set it aside.

Proverbs speaks directly to that habit. Remove the dross from the silver, and a silversmith can produce a vessel. The silver was never the problem. The story we told about the silver was the problem. Once the false layer is cleared away, the material is ready for a new shape.

It is the glory of GOD to conceal a matter, and the glory of kings to search it out. Searching refuses the first easy reading. It does not accept the calendar as the final authority. It waits for the true order rather than forcing a smaller one.

John Adesoye searched. He did not accept the first reading of his age. He did not treat the later decades as material to be discarded. He returned to training while still working, shared the campus with his son, and learned the work of nursing. The decision did not erase the years of electronics. It refused to let those years rewrite the rest of the story. The same hands that once restored broken devices are now set toward the recovery of patients. He has said the joy is the same. When something broken begins to work again, joy rises.

Joy does not wait for the perfect season. The psalmist knew this. You make known to me the path of life. You will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand. Presence is not postponed until the schedule improves. Fullness of joy is found where GOD is near, not where the circumstances finally match an earlier plan.

The father who returned did not wait for an ideal window. He stepped into the work while the years were already many. In that choice he followed the pattern of the One who went about doing good. The good was not reserved for the young or the perfectly timed. It was simply done.

We are tempted to accept the surface reading. We take the real gifts of strength, time, and skill and decide they belong only to an earlier chapter. We call that decision realism. It is not. Wisdom searches. Wisdom clears away the false layer. Wisdom refuses to let the calendar become the final artist.

A trustworthy messenger refreshes the spirit of the one who sends him. Good news from a distant season is like cold water to a weary soul. The graduation of a sixty-four-year-old father is that kind of news. It arrives from a chapter many treat as finished. It carries the quiet proof that a life can still be turned toward service.

The silver was never dross. The years spent repairing devices were not wasted material. They prepared the hands for a different kind of mending. The same joy that once rose when a broken circuit came back to life now rises when a patient begins to recover. The material was always ready. The false story had to be cleared away.

Look at the father in the robe. Look at the campus he shared with his son that season. The image is not mainly about age. It is about material restored to its true use. The skill was never discarded. It was simply set toward a new vessel.

You do not have to manufacture a new life from nothing. The gifts are already real. The question is whether the false layer will be allowed to remain or whether the silver will be cleared for the work it was meant to hold.

The path of life is made known. Joy is found in presence. The search is still open. The return is still possible.

I am not here to prove myself. I am here to make HIM visible.

  • 🙏 To the one who thinks the useful years are finished, may you find the courage to return and serve.
  • 🙏 To the one who has accepted a smaller story about the remaining years, may the false layer be cleared away.
  • 🙏 To the one who waits for perfect conditions before obedience, may presence meet you now.
  • 🙏 To the one who needs good news from a distant season, may the story of a father at sixty-four refresh your spirit.

Grace and Peace.
