This morning’s word is What GOD Is Holding.
The anchor verse is Matthew 6:34.
“Be not therefore anxious for the morrow, for the morrow shall be anxious for its own things; sufficient for the day is the evil of it.”
There is a difference between the things you are supposed to carry and the things GOD is supposed to carry.
Most of the weight in a life comes from getting that wrong.
Three readings landed in the same place this morning from different angles. The first was Nehemiah closing on reversal. The people built the wall, signed their names, made the promises, and drifted anyway. The book closes with the question of how that happens, and the answer was simple. The answer was never our follow-through. The answer was always Jesus.
The second was Joseph closing his arc with healing. Joseph forgave his brothers not because he was strong enough, but because time with GOD had healed what pain once defined. The healing was not Joseph’s project. It was GOD’s work, and Joseph let it happen.
The third was Matthew 6 anchoring what both stories were saying. Three times Jesus tells the crowd, Do not be anxious. Anxiety is a quiet refusal to trust that GOD has what we are trying to hold.
That sentence is uncomfortable because most of us recognize it as the actual voice underneath our worry.
There is a kind of work that is yours to do. Show up. Walk the day. Love the people in front of you. Do the next right thing. Tell the truth. Sign your name to the commitments you have already made.
And there is a kind of work that is not yours. Outcomes. Timing. Healing. The shape of the future. The way other people respond. The harvest of seeds you will not see ripen.
The 1440 carried a story this morning about a biotech company that 3D-printed an artificial eggshell. They have hatched 26 chickens so far. The eventual goal is to revive extinct species. The shell looks like nothing on the outside. Inside, the work is happening. Life is developing in silence.
Most of GOD’s work in us is like that. Quiet. Hidden. Underway whether we measure it or not.
The work is surrender. The witness is consistency. The healing is GOD’s.
So today the prayer is simple.
Lord, show me what is mine to carry and what is YOURS. Help me put down what I have been gripping. Teach me to walk this day in trust, not in management. Be present with the people I love who are near me, and with the ones who are far. Heal what I have been trying to fix on my own. Make me faithful in the long after of every breakthrough that came before.
I am not here to prove myself. I am here to make HIM visible.
