This morning’s word is Small Obedience, Spirit Power.
The anchor verse is short and direct.
“Who dares despise the day of small things?” Zechariah 4:10
The temptation is to measure today by size. Size of platform. Size of audience. Size of outcome. Size of visible progress. The world rewards scale and applause, and even people of faith can slip into measuring our days by what looks impressive.
GOD does not measure that way.
The disciples on the morning of Pentecost were not impressive. They were a small group in a small room, waiting. Peter had denied. Thomas had doubted. The others had scattered and come back. They were not famous. They were not credentialed. They were ordinary people who showed up.
And then the Spirit came.
Pentecost did not start with a stadium. It started with a small room and a group of people who were available.
Today is Stevie Wonder’s birthday. He was born blind. He was signed to Motown at eleven. He has been writing songs for over sixty years. One line of his stays with me today.
“You will never feel proud of your work if you find no joy within it; your best work is always joyful work.”
That is small obedience over decades. One song. Then another. Then another. Not because the world demanded it. Because the work itself was where the joy lived.
Small obedience is not the failure of bigger obedience. It is the form obedience usually takes.
I have my own places where I am tempted to despise the small beginning. Grace and Peace Studio is still young. The daily word reaches a few people each morning. The temptation is to ask whether any of it matters at the scale the world rewards.
GOD does not ask the question that way.
The Spirit fills surrendered people in small rooms. That is the pattern. The Spirit has always worked that way. The Spirit will work that way again today.
So today the prayer is simple.
Holy Spirit, give me eyes to see the small beginning as sacred. Keep me from despising the seed. Keep me faithful with the next step. Let me act from YOUR word, not from the size of the outcome.
I am not here to prove myself. I am here to make HIM visible.
