This morning’s word is Yielded Action.
The anchor verse is Pentecost.
“When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting.” Acts 2:1-2
The disciples in that room were not polished. They had failed. Peter had denied. Thomas had doubted. The others had scattered. But they waited. And when the Spirit came, they spoke.
The miracle was not that they became impressive. It was that they became yielded.
Today is Florence Nightingale’s birthday. She was born May 12, 1820. She is remembered as the founder of modern nursing, but one line of hers carries the whole word for today.
“I attribute my success to this: I never gave or took an excuse.”
That is yielded action in plain clothes. She did not say she tried harder than everyone. She did not say she was more gifted. She said she refused to give an excuse and she refused to accept one. From herself. From others. From the system she was trying to change.
I have my own excuses. Places where I am waiting for clarity before I act. Doors GOD has already opened that I am still talking myself into walking through.
Yielded does not mean passive. Yielded means available.
Pentecost is not about getting filled to feel something. Pentecost is about getting filled to do something. The wind came so the disciples could move. The Spirit fills surrendered people and sends them.
So today the prayer is simple.
Holy Spirit, give me burden, opportunity, and boldness. Give me a burden for one person today. Give me eyes to see the opportunity. Give me boldness to speak or act when the moment comes. Keep me from making excuses for what YOU have already called clear.
I am not here to prove myself. I am here to make HIM visible.
